Hitting practice where every swing has a job. Bunting, moving runners, two-strike battle and a live situational scrimmage. The scoreboard in fall ball is development: does the hitter know what the at-bat is asking for?

Dynamic warmup + tee starter0:00 · 12 min
  • Jog, skips, lunges, trunk rotations (5 min)
  • Tee round 1: 8 swings, middle-middle, full finish, balance check on every swing
  • Tee round 2: 8 swings, outside pitch to opposite field
Bunt game0:12 · 18 min
  • Demo: sacrifice vs. bunt for a hit, feet, bat angle, top hand
  • Two lines, front toss: each player lays 6 sacrifices (3 first-base side, 3 third-base side)
  • Bunt game: 10 points to win. Deadened in the zone = 2, foul = 0, popped up = minus 2
  • Slappers (if any): 6 reps of soft slap footwork against front toss
Station rotation · 3 groups0:30 · 24 min
  • Station A, live arm or machine: hit-and-run reps. Must put the ball on the ground somewhere. 8 reps
  • Station B, front toss: runner-on-second job: hit behind the runner to the right side. 8 reps
  • Station C, tee circuit: two-strike approach: choke up, shorten, inside-out tee placement. 10 reps
  • Rotate every 8 minutes, coaches call the situation before each rep
Situational scrimmage0:54 · 28 min
  • Split squads, runners start each inning per coach call (runner on 2nd nobody out, 1st and 3rd one out, bases loaded two outs)
  • Hitters get points for doing the job (runner moved, run in, productive out), not just for hits
  • Defense plays it live: bunt coverage and first-and-third calls at full speed
  • Coach freezes play after big decisions and asks the team what the right play was
Wrap + this week's Standard1:22 · 8 min
  • Ask each hitter: what was your job in your best at-bat today?
  • Assign the week: 2 tee sessions (20 swings each), 2 arm care sessions, hydration daily
  • Remind: next practice we grade jobs done, not batting average
Coach's noteFront toss beats machines for situational work because you can miss on purpose. If the scrimmage gets sloppy, stop it, fix one thing, restart the inning. End practice on a loud, competitive rep.
